LES MIS CH 14
It's really amazing to see how, despite all the times that Monseigneur Bienvenu could've given in to the wealth and power, he still stuck with the people who needed the money and help the most. In this chapter the author says that misery is the bishop's mine and it makes sense as to why he does what he does because like a mine at the end of all that hard work there's a reward whether it be gold, silver, diamond, etc., the bishop finds a sense of peace in himself knowing that there's one less person in the world that has to suffer hunger and poverty and that is enough of a reward to him.
