A WORD ABOUT THE MISERABLES
The preface of Les Miserables provides a powerful insight on problems of the world back then and to be honest quite scary to see how much of that still exists today. Victor Hugo says in the preface that there are three great problems of the world: the degradation of man through poverty, the corruption of women through hunger (poverty), and the destruction of children through lack of hope. As long as those three problems exist and as long as the people are neglected or stripped of their opportunities, in any part of the world, books like Les Miserables will never be useless and have the power to inspire.
