LES MIS CH 3

In this chapter of Les Misérables the author writes about how the diocese of Digne is very difficult for the Bishop to travel through because of the different terrains and lack of efficient transportation. But somehow the Bishop manages to visit all the little villages and in each one where he sees a negative quality such as greed, harm, etc he uses another village that does the opposite (in other words a positive quality) as an example for the "negative village". For every village he had a different example for them to follow. Interestingly enough, the author paints the Bishop with the qualities of Jesus Christ and in the beginning of the chapter the Bishop arrives to the ancient episcopal city, Senez, on a mule and the Bishop himself points out that it does seem quite arrogant to show up in the same way Jesus Christ traveled but that he only used a mule out of need and not as way to symbolize that he is the same as Jesus Christ or has the same influence/power of Jesus Christ.
